Handcrafts + Holistic Education
The handcrafts play an essential role in an Ecole education, allowing students to experience firsthand the pride and meaning to be found in craftsmanship. The handcrafts help develop a sense of confidence and self-esteem as students explore competency outside the academic experience.
Through practical work, our students experience innovation, creativity, and self-expression - all skills that transcend disciplines. Each young person at the Ecole experiences the satisfaction that comes through creating a beautiful or useful object and gains hands-on skills that they carry with them through their whole lives.
Handcrafts + Life Skills
Working in the smithy, creating a beautiful striated knife out of Damascus steel, learning to weave colorful wall hangings, or discovering how to up-cycle discarded textile items, our students gain practical life knowledge through our handcraft courses. Students can choose from an abundant selection of handcraft classes - beekeeping, cheese making, baking, silversmithing, knitting, weaving, furniture making - there’s truly something for everyone!
Through our handcraft offerings, many students have discovered interests that they’ve carried with them through their whole lives, and some students have even turned passions into vocations. And of course, it is always useful to know how to change a tire, bake a pie, or sew a new pair of pants!
