To support upcoming 4 and 6-day hikes, myself and six other mitarbeiters trained with the Swiss Alpine Club last week to become qualified hike leaders.

We took part in various exercises to develop the skills needed to take a group on mountain trails (white-red-white if you know the signs) - these ranged from planning hikes, to first aid, to decision making, to managing the physical and emotional dynamics of a group, to orientation and map reading.

We also learnt about various scientific and sociological aspects of exploring the area, from geology to botany and the impact of humans.

In the process we explored areas and trails unfamiliar to us, from the Susten Pass to the Emmental, so in the future we could offer hikes in these areas.

It was an intense and enriching week and we’re looking forward to the 4-day hike. Once again the hike commision are looking to the heavens for a spell of good weather so we can head out.
